🧘🏻♀️ What is gratitude meditation?
Gratitude meditation is a type of meditation that involves focusing on things that we are grateful for in order to cultivate a sense of gratitude and appreciation. (Read: love.)
During a gratitude meditation session, we focus on things that we already have and are grateful for such as our health, relationships, career or personal accomplishments, and even material belongings.
By focusing on these positive aspects of life, we can develop a more positive outlook and attitude, which can lead to increased feelings of happiness and well-being. Some research has also suggested that practicing gratitude meditation can have physical health benefits, such as reducing inflammation and improving sleep. It also speeds up your manifestation and increases its’ power.
Overall, gratitude meditation is a simple yet powerful practice that can help individuals cultivate a greater sense of gratitude and positivity in their daily lives.

Now to the main event — our meditation!
I love doing gratitude meditations or journaling in the morning after yoga or at night before going to bed. You might enjoy it most right after you wake up or during your lunch break. Try and see what time works best for you and stick with it.
So how to do gratitude meditation?
Here’s the video that I promised. In it, I am guiding you through a short morning gratitude meditation:
If you like doing your meditations in silence and one-on-one with yourself, here’s the meditation script:
Before you get ready to start your day, sit comfortably and close your eyes.
Take a deep breath in, hold for a second… and release without control.
Take a moment to fully arrive in this safe space. Relax and let go of any thoughts or plans at least for the next few minutes. With each exhale, imagine all the tension melting away from your muscles.
Notice the rhythm of your breath. It’s the grounding tool that is always with you at any time. You don’t need anything else to get back to the present moment.
Your breath is the embodiment of the vibrant energy of life that connects everything and everyone in this universe.
Repeat the following words of gratitude in your mind.
I am grateful for the gift of life.
I am grateful for the richness of this world and nature, the sun and the sky, the trees and the oceans.
I am grateful for my beautiful body that carries me through my life journey, and everything it allows me to do.
I am grateful for my emotions, feelings, and thoughts that make me feel alive and allow me to be me.
I am grateful for my loved ones, and all the love that I am able to give and receive.
I am grateful for my inner wisdom and intuition.
I am grateful for the air I breathe and the roof over my head.
I am grateful that I am growing and evolving together with everything around me.
I am grateful for living in a time when everything is possible.
I am grateful for all the opportunities in my life.
I am grateful to be the person I am, exactly as I am.
Take one more deep breath. Breathe in all the gratitude and appreciation… and breathe out love and kindness. Smile if you feel like it. Place your hands on your chest and feel the warmth of your body. Thank yourself for taking this time to appreciate all the abundance that is present in your life.
Try to move forward with your day with the feeling of gratitude.

🧘🏾♂️ Can you meditate for 5 minutes?
So is five minutes of meditation enough?
Yes! Even one minute might be enough sometimes. Even one mindful deep belly breath is better than nothing.
However much time you are able to dedicate to your daily gratitude practice is great. Just showing up even for a minute does wonders if you do it consistently.
I do love this quote though:
“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day – unless you’re too busy; then you should sit for an hour.”
It’s a joke but there is some truth to it.
The busier we are, the more we get caught up in all the worries of the outer world, and the less we turn inward which is essentially what we should better focus on.
🌿 Other 5 minute meditation techniques
- 5-minute body scan meditation. It is a practice where you focus on each part of your body and “scan” it to then fully relax. It is a very soothing practice that is perfect for evenings.
- Square breathing meditation. Breathe in for a count of four. Hold your breath for a count of four. Exhale for another count of four. Repeat.
- Meditation to cultivate presence and awareness. Simply observe your breath without control. Notice sounds and sensations around you but try to not judge them or give them names. Notice and observe them as they are.
