So, let me guess why you are here… You are ready to kick-start (or boost) your spiritual awakening, and you are looking for some tips on how to develop your own spiritual routine? If that’s the case, I’m happy you found yourself here because that is exactly what we will talk about in this post!

It’s safe to say that nothing helps me stay sane better than a good spiritual routine.

As a creative and an entrepreneur (and a highly sensitive person) living in a big city, it’s VITAL to have a coping mechanism that brings rest, clarity, and joy.

It’s also crucial to keep learning about yourself to be able to handle the world better. And most importantly, to learn how to seek happiness within.

However, my spiritual routine became even something bigger for me than all the things I listed above.

It’s my passion, and I truly believe it leads me to the right path.

I can guarantee your life will change once you start practicing some of the things that I’m talking about below.

In this post, we are going to examine what a spiritual routine is, how to start developing one and what to include. We’ll go through a list of different spiritual practices to find the ones that sound most appealing.

We’ll also take a look at a healing morning routine as well as a night one. And I’ll share my own spiritual routine!

Alright, let’s get into it!

This post is all about spiritual routine.

🧘🏻‍♀️ What is a daily spiritual routine (or practice)

A daily spiritual routine (or practice) is a set of spiritual rituals that you repeat every day to evolve and grow as a person, stay connected with your true self and the Universe (Source, God — choose yours), and seek harmony and bliss from within.

If you read my previous post on spiritual practices, you know that I have my own interpretation of what a spiritual practice is. I believe that any spiritual practice is aimed at raising your vibrational frequency.

I’m explaining this and much more in my previous post on spiritual practices. Don’t hesitate to check it out for additional tips on how to start a spiritual routine:

The Only List of Spiritual Practices for a Happier Life You Need (Beginner-Friendly)

💫 How to start a spiritual practice

1. Start small. Even if it’s a two-minute meditation, it’s so much more than no meditation at all! So whatever habit it is, it’s important to take baby steps and get into a routine first. Otherwise, the risk of getting overwhelmed and dropping everything is too high (remember trying to get into a habit of working out every day? Yeeeeah…)

2. Choose what feels good to you. It’s pointless to be loading your day up with multiple practices that you don’t even enjoy. Look through the list below and try to guess what practices you would like. Or if you already tried any and enjoyed them, don’t hesitate to include them in your spiritual routine.

3. Focus on showing up, not performance. This is key! Remove judgment and stop demanding yourself to perform a perfect asana every time you show up on your mat. Just show up! That’s how your path to a perfect asana is paved. However, don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day either. Instead just quietly get back on track and keep going as if it never happened. It will boost your chances to stick with the habit in the long run.

4. Set the intention. It’s not a secret that the power of any spiritual routine lies in the intention. It keeps you focused on the practice and reminds you why you are doing it.

5. Share about your new journey with the right people only. The ones who understand, support, and keep their mind open. It is great to have fellow spiritual explorers to share your experience with, but only if it is positive, kind, and compassionate people. Otherwise, don’t tell anyone.

6. Track your progress (optional). It feels really good to see your progress over time, especially when it’s a long process and the instant results are invisible. You can document your sensations and achievements in a journal (meditation, manifestation), take pictures or videos of yourself doing practices (yoga, breathwork), or use a habit tracker.

🗒 Spiritual practices list

So what are some spiritual activities that you could try? And what are good spiritual habits to start?

This time, I decided to divide all the spiritual practices on this list into three groups:

  • active (require certain actions in time and place),
  • passive (ongoing, “in the background”),
  • and additional (optional but are helpful and fun).

A little note on the passive practices: it’s not that they don’t require any effort. Oh boy, they do — even more than the active ones.

The reason I called them passive is that they can be practiced constantly — every second on a day-to-day basis in a “passive” mode. That’s actually what makes them more difficult (with the active ones, it’s a certain action every time so easier to track).

This classification is based solely on my perception.

🤸🏾‍♂️ Active spiritual practices

MEDITATION (+ mindful breathing)

YOGA (hatha, ashtanga, vinyasa, yin, and others)

NOURISHING MEALS (decreasing consumption of animal products and processed food)

FELLOWSHIP (spiritual community, sisterhood, and other)

🙇🏻‍♀️ Passive spiritual practices

📖 Spiritual routine guide

So how do you start a spiritual day? And how do you wrap one?

Let’s look at a couple examples!

spiritual morning routine

🌞 Spiritual morning routine

Morning is probably the most important time of the day because that’s when we set the mood and determine if it’s going to be a great day… or a disaster.

Here is one good example of a spiritual morning routine that you can try:

6:30 — Wake up + brush your teeth + drink some water (no phone!!)

6:45 — Yoga (choose a gentle flow, more focused on stretching)

7:10 — Meditation (works wonders if you want to start your day in a calm and confident state of mind)

7:20 — Gratitude (use your journal to write down 5 things you are grateful for to get into good positive energy, still no phone!!)

7:25 — Manifestation (use your favorite manifestation method to set intentions for the day)

7:30 — Make a nourishing breakfast (choose whole foods; don’t forget to include good fats like avo, olive oil, nuts, or seeds, a multigrain toast or oats, some greens and fruits, and some matcha or tea)

Alright, now you can check your phone…

You are now loaded up with amazing energy and are ready to start your day! All that took just one hour.

🌛 Spiritual night routine

Now it’s time to prep your body and mind for some good night rest.

9:05 — Smudging (burn some palo santo, walk around with it to cleanse your body and space from the energy of the day)

9:10 — Yoga (if you prefer being active in the evening when all the work is done; choose a gentle flow to start your evening relaxation)

9:40 — Long shower (it’s the best way to get rid of everything that you’ve accumulated throughout the day — water is known for being a conductor of energy)

10:00 — Breathwork (choose peaceful soft practices like ocean-sounding breath to help release the energy of the day)

10:10 — Chanting (letting it all — frustration, anxiety, stress — out)

10:20 — Journaling (show yourself some self love: write down three achievements of the day, and one thing that you are proud of)

10:30 — Bedtime

I can guarantee you will sleep like a baby after this!

🌃 Consider these if you live in a big city

This is something that I peeped in Hitomi Mochizuki’s stories highlights and found extremely relevant.

  1. Wake up early to meditate before the day starts. If you can spend some time outside — even better (it’s proven that early in the morning the air is cleaner)!
  2. Hug trees every time you get a chance. When you do it, you release a hormone called oxytocin — hormone of love, trust and warm feelings. It also lets you feel more connected to Nature.
  3. Release energy that does not belong to you at the end of every day. This is a GREAT tip. We take over a lot of energies and emotions throughout the day and it’s helpful to cleanse. It can be done by taking a shower, smudging, or shaking the energy out. This one is mostly about intention. Use the power of the mind!
  4. Spend time in nature at least every other week. Take a train out of the city — to a beach, forest, park, or mountains. Swimming in the ocean, being barefoot on the grass, dancing with the wind, hiking, or walking in nature — whatever you choose is amazing!
  5. Community is key. Surround yourself with kind people who can see the real you, and your potential for spiritual growth and evolution. Those who support and encourage. To meet them, go to local spiritual events, yoga or meditation studios, crystal shops, or join online communities (for example, Facebook groups).
  6. Leave your phone at home (or turn Airplane mode on), and bring a journal or a book instead. Go for a loooong walk with no destination (oh you know I love those!), stop by little shops to just stare at pretty things, and talk to beautiful strangers. Don’t forget to stay aware of your surroundings.

💁🏻‍♀️ Example of a spiritual routine — my own!

My practice is constantly evolving. I am adjusting it according to my needs and mood so here is the one that I’m following at the moment (as of 2022).

I’ve developed daily, weekly, and monthly routines because that seems to be working best for me.

I like combining mind-body-nature practices every day (check out my older post about spirituality to see what I’m talking about if you still haven’t). Obviously, I don’t accomplish this every single day but when I manage to, it always feels really good.

I do meditation EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I try my bestest to not miss the practice. Even if it’s a five-minute one. Sometimes I aim for two — one right after waking up, one before bed. I usually combine meditation with the simplest breathwork like diaphragm breathing or ocean-sounding breath.

I do yoga about three times a week now but my goal is daily yoga practice. I am forming this habit very slow because I know that this is how my body gets used to something.

I burn palo santo every time I feel heavy energy around me or want to cleanse myself or the space. I have little plates with palo santo and incense both in my bathroom and bedroom.

I go through phases of journaling every day a few times and not picking up my journal several days in a row. That’s just what feels natural to me.

I make sure to remind myself every day of two things: 1) What I’m trying to manifest and the moment, and 2) What I’m grateful for. Sometimes I would do scripting in my manifestation journal, sometimes I would just have a little conversation with myself in my head. No matter what the tool is, it’s always on my mind.

I read spiritual books and watch documentaries and listen to spiritual teachers on YouTube regularly.

I haven’t eaten meat in seven years now. I eat other animal products (fish, seafood, eggs, dairy) in limited amounts. I’ve experimented with vegetarian and vegan diets before and I’m thinking of practicing that more. Generally, I’m trying to have all my meals healthy and nourishing.

The listed above are a MUST for me.

I’m also very into tarot, astrology, crystals (I have a lot of them), and moon rituals, and I dedicate time to them whenever I feel like it (once in a while, every month).

What I need to be doing more of: spending time in nature, visiting high vibrational places, building or joining a like-minded community.

There are practices that I haven’t explored properly yet but would love to. They include chanting, some types of breathwork, and some other things.

This post was all about spiritual routine.
